His Name Shall Be … [from Isaiah 9v6]

Wonderful Counsellor
A counsellor is one you turn to for advice or help when you have some problem or difficulty. There have been many wise counsellors throughout history but all of them came upon situations that were beyond them. Not the Lord Jesus Christ.

There was no problem too big for Him to solve

Whether it was the scribes and Pharisees asking hard or tricky questions; or those burdened by worry, guilt or grief; the Master had an answer for each one. And He has an answer for each one of us, no matter how deep or dark our situation may be.

Mighty God
One of the characteristics of God is His omnipotence – all powerful. This does not mean that God can do anything and everything. His power is exercised in accordance with His essence and nature. However, we can say that …

There is no foe too powerful for Him to conquer.

The two great foes are death, and him who has the power of death, that is the devil (Hebs2), but when we come to the cross we find that the devil had absolutely no power over the Lord Jesus Christ.
Death could not take Him! He laid down His own life
And death could not hold Him! He rose from the dead.
And so we read in 1Cor15v55, “O death where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory?” And in Hebs2v14, “that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil”.

Everlasting Father
There are many passages that teach us that the Lord Jesus Christ is eternal.
John1v1&3, “In the beginning was the Word … all things were made by Him”
Micah5v2, “Bethlehem … out of thee shall He come forth, whose … from everlasting”
Revelation 1:8, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
Therefore…

There is no time frame too great for Him to span

Prince of Peace
Perhaps this is the most precious of all these names, for while the others express much of the greatness and glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, this name tells us of His grace towards us.
Isaiah has already spoken plainly about the rebellion of the people of Israel and mankind in general. None of us deserve peace. Rather, we deserve the fullness of the wrath and judgment of God.
But, Romans5v8 tells us that “God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us“.
Christ Himself said that He “came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” (Mark2v17)
Perhaps though you are thinking you are too sinful? Perhaps you think your life is beyond redemption?
Let me encourage you with this thought.

There is no person too sinful for Him to save

The promise of our faithful and gracious Saviour, the Prince of Peace is this:
John 6:37 “him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.”
