Psalms of Hope – Psalm 3

Read Psalm 3

Context: King David, the author, is in grief, fleeing for his life from his son Absalom, who in conspiracy, is seeking to take not only his crown, but his life [2Sam15-16].

To see your child turn against you, take a wrong path and conspire to do evil, will cause any parent to worry, grieve and lose sleep. Perhaps you know something of this? I pray you will find comfort and hope where David found it – in the Lord.

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me.
Many there be which say of my soul, there is no help for him in God. Selah.
But you, O Lord, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for you have smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; you have broken the teeth of the ungodly.
Salvation belongs unto the Lord: your blessing is upon your people. Selah.
